Mets’ early power surge holds up in 7-5 win over Marlins
The Mets did all of their damage early and then spent the rest of the night protecting it, beating the Marlins 7-5 on Tuesday at loanDepot park.
New York scored twice in the first, added three more in the second and kept piling on with single runs in the third and fifth to build a 7-0 cushion. Sandy Alcantara absorbed the brunt of it, allowing seven runs on seven hits and four walks in 4.1 innings.
Juan Soto led the offense, finishing 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Brett Baty added a two-run homer, Francisco Lindor also went deep, and Jared Young chipped in an RBI as the Mets made the most of eight hits and five walks.
Miami made a game of it late. The Marlins scored four times in the sixth and added another run in the ninth, with Jakob Marsee going 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead a 10-hit attack. Jared Serna, Otto Lopez, Javier Sanoja and Brian Navarreto also drove in runs.
Sean Manaea was credited with the win after five innings, and Kodai Senga finished the ninth for his seventh save.
