Mets survive wild slugfest in Miami, hold off Marlins 15-14
The Mets built a huge early cushion, lost it, then scored six decisive runs in the seventh and barely escaped with a 15-14 win over the Marlins on Wednesday at loanDepot park.
New York jumped on Janson Junk right away, scoring six times in the second and adding two more in the third for an 8-0 lead. Christopher Morel went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, Francisco Lindor homered and drove in three, and Luis Torrens finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs. A.J. Ewing added three hits and two RBIs.
Miami answered with three runs in the fourth, then erased the deficit with a five-run sixth. Chris Devenski was tagged for five runs while recording only one out, and the game was suddenly tied at 8-8 despite Robert Stock’s relatively steady four-inning start.
The turning point came immediately after. The Mets broke it open again with six runs in the seventh against Josh Ekness and Tyler Zuber, reclaiming control at 14-9, then added another run in the eighth.
The Marlins kept coming, piling up 20 hits. Joe Mack, Owen Caissie, Jakob Marsee, Griffin Conine and Graham Pauley all had multihit, multi-RBI nights. Miami scored twice in the eighth and three more in the ninth, but Tobias Myers got the final two outs for the save.
- New York won 15-14 after leading 8-0, seeing Miami tie it 8-8, then scoring six runs in the seventh.
