Padres rally for four in the eighth to erase Nationals’ lead and win 5-4
For seven innings, the Nationals had the game exactly where they wanted it. The eighth changed everything.
San Diego rallied for four runs in the bottom of the inning Tuesday at Petco Park, wiping out a 4-1 deficit and beating Washington 5-4.
Washington built its lead with steady early pitching and timely extra-base damage. Riley Cornelio opened with 3.0 hitless innings, Zak Kent and Yovanny Cruz followed with three more scoreless frames, and the Nationals led 3-0 before San Diego got on the board in the seventh.
