New York Mets 9, Miami Marlins 4

The Mets fell behind briefly, then took control for good in a 9-4 victory over the Marlins on Monday at loanDepot park.

New York struck first with two runs in the opening inning and added another in the second, but Miami answered with a four-run bottom of the second to move ahead 4-3. That was the Marlins’ only surge of the night.

The Mets responded immediately. They tied it in the third, then broke the game open with three runs in the fourth against Eury Pérez, who lasted four innings and was charged with seven runs, five earned, on 10 hits and three walks. New York added two more in the sixth and finished with 16 hits.

A.J. Ewing led the attack by going 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Marcus Semien scored twice and drove in a run, Bo Bichette had two hits and an RBI, and Nick Morabito and Francisco Alvarez each added an RBI.

Miami’s biggest swing came from Graham Pauley, who went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer, and Javier Sanoja had two hits and an RBI.

After Jonah Tong allowed four runs over five innings, the Mets’ bullpen took over. Dedniel Núñez, Chris Devenski, Daniel Duarte and Austin Warren combined for four scoreless innings to close out NYM 9, MIA 4.

• New York erased a 4-3 deficit by scoring once in the third and three times in the fourth.
• The Mets pounded out 16 hits, with A.J. Ewing driving in three and Marcus Semien scoring twice.
• After Jonah Tong’s five innings, four Mets relievers combined for four scoreless frames to finish the win.
