Clemens’ go-ahead homer, Twins’ no-hit bullpen lift Minnesota past Tigers 3-2

The Twins turned a slim game with few chances into a 3-2 win over the Tigers on Tuesday at Comerica Park, using Kody Clemens’ sixth-inning swing and four hitless innings from their bullpen to decide it.

Minnesota scored first in the opening inning on an RBI from Josh Bell, but Detroit flipped the game in the fifth when Kevin McGonigle connected for a two-run homer, scoring Zach McKinstry for a 2-1 lead.

The answer came quickly. In the sixth, Minnesota pushed across two runs against Drew Anderson to move back in front for good. Clemens delivered the biggest blow, a two-run homer that accounted for the final margin.

That was enough for Dean Kremer, who worked five innings and allowed five hits and two earned runs. After him, the Twins’ relief group took over completely. A.J. Minter, Andrew Morris, Jeff Hoffman and Yoendrys Gómez combined for four no-hit innings, with Gómez finishing the ninth for his 22nd save.

Ryan Jeffers led Minnesota with two of its five hits, while Luke Keaschall and Brooks Lee each scored a run. McGonigle drove in both Detroit runs in the loss.
