Yankees break it open early behind Warren’s 8 strikeouts, beat Rockies 6-1
The Yankees did their damage early and never let Colorado back into the game, beating the Rockies 6-1 on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium.
New York scored once in the second inning, then took firm control with a four-run third against Tomoyuki Sugano. That was more than enough support for Will Warren, who turned in six strong innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out eight and walking two.
The Rockies’ lone breakthrough came in the fifth, when Connor Norby went deep for Colorado’s only run. Norby finished 2-for-3 with the homer, while Jake McCarthy, Kyle Karros and Zac Veen added one hit apiece. But Colorado managed just five hits overall and did not score outside Norby’s solo shot.
The Yankees got their offense from the long ball and a timely middle of the order. George Lombard Jr. drove in four runs and homered, Luis García Jr. went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored, and Cody Bellinger also homered. Aaron Judge added two hits, and Spencer Jones reached three times.
After Warren exited, John Schreiber, Paul Blackburn and Michael Fulmer combined for three scoreless innings to finish it.
