Giants rally from five down with six-run eighth to beat Cardinals 7-6
For seven innings, this looked like a St. Louis game. By the end, San Francisco had turned Oracle Park upside down.
The Giants scored six times in the eighth inning to erase a 6-1 deficit and beat the Cardinals 7-6 on Wednesday night. St. Louis had controlled the game behind Andre Pallante, who allowed one run over five innings, and a lineup that steadily built the lead. Leo Bernal’s three-run homer did the biggest damage, while Nolan Gorman and José Fermín each drove in a run as the Cardinals scored in the second, third, fifth and sixth.
San Francisco’s comeback came quickly once the Cardinals went to the back of the bullpen. Cade Winquest was charged with four runs in two-thirds of an inning, and George Soriano gave up two more while taking the loss and a blown save. Bryce Eldridge led the rally with three RBIs, Jung Hoo Lee added two, and Jonah Cox and Shay Whitcomb also drove in runs.
The Giants survived a sloppy night defensively with three errors because their bullpen settled the game down after Blade Tidwell’s four-run outing. Matt Wilkinson got the win with two scoreless innings, and Trent Harris closed it out for his first save.
