Minnesota Twins 2, Detroit Tigers 7

The Tigers did their damage early and never let Minnesota back in, beating the Twins 7-2 on Tuesday at Comerica Park.

Detroit scored twice in the first and added three more in the third to seize a 5-0 lead against Zebby Matthews, who lasted 2.1 innings. The Twins starter was charged with five runs on two hits and four walks, and Detroit made that traffic count.

Minnesota’s only push came in the fourth, when Josh Bell and Kody Clemens both went deep to cut the deficit to 5-2. But that was the end of the Twins’ scoring. Keider Montero completed four innings for Detroit, and the bullpen took over from there.

Tyler Holton earned the win with two hitless innings, and Detroit’s relievers combined for five scoreless frames. Tyler Kinley worked around two hits in the seventh, Drew Sommers struck out three over 1.1 innings, and Kyle Finnegan finished it.

Detroit then tacked on insurance in the seventh and eighth. Colt Keith drove in two with a homer, Dillon Dingler added two RBIs, and John Peck, Brett Callahan and Riley Greene drove in one apiece as the Tigers backed up their fast start.
