article: Baltimore did its damage early and then held on late Monday, beating Cleveland 6-4 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
The Orioles grabbed control against Joey Cantillo, who lasted just 2.1 innings and was charged with four runs. Baltimore scored once in the second, then broke the game open with three more in the third. Cantillo’s five walks helped create traffic, and Coby Mayo made Cleveland pay. Mayo finished 2-for-5 with two home runs, three RBIs and two runs scored, supplying the biggest swings of the night.
Trevor Rogers gave Baltimore the cushion it needed. The left-hander worked 7.1 innings, allowing one run on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Cleveland’s first run did not come until the sixth, but Baltimore answered with two more in the bottom half to stretch the lead to 6-1. Dylan Beavers, Blaze Alexander and Pete Alonso each contributed an RBI, while Samuel Basallo scored twice.
The Guardians finally made it interesting in the ninth. Jo Adell’s RBI hit and Nathaniel Lowe’s three-run homer against Andrew Kittredge cut the deficit to two before Josh Walker recorded the final out for his first save.
