Braves bury Phillies with 8-run 4th in 12-2 win

The Braves turned a quiet game into a rout Saturday at Truist Park, breaking it open with an 8-run 4th inning and rolling past the Phillies 12-2.

Philadelphia actually got 3 scoreless innings from opener Tim Mayza, who allowed just 2 hits. But once he exited, Atlanta’s lineup took over. Brooks Raley was charged with 3 runs in two-thirds of an inning, Grant Holman was tagged for 5 more in the same frame, and the Phillies’ relievers wound up allowing all 12 Braves runs.

That fourth inning decided the game, and Atlanta kept adding on with 1 run in the 6th and 3 more in the 8th. Michael Harris II led the offense by going 4-for-5 with a home run, 2 runs and 3 RBI, while Ronald Acuña Jr. finished 3-for-3 with a homer, 2 RBI and a walk. Drake Baldwin and Mauricio Dubón each drove in 2.

Tyler Mahle gave Atlanta exactly the start it needed. He worked 7 innings, allowing 6 hits and 1 run with no walks. Philadelphia’s only damage against him was Bryce Harper’s solo homer in the 1st. Justin Crawford added a solo shot in the 8th off Brent Suter, but by then the game was long out of reach.
