Seager’s 3 RBIs back Quantrill as Rangers hold off Diamondbacks, 7-6
The Rangers built the cushion they needed Sunday at Chase Field, then barely held on for a 7-6 win over the Diamondbacks. The matchup followed the pregame script only on the Texas side, as Cal Quantrill gave the Rangers six solid innings while Eduardo Rodriguez was charged with six runs in 5.1 innings.
Texas struck first with two runs in the opening inning and pulled away in the middle frames, scoring three times in the fifth and twice in the sixth. Corey Seager led that push, going 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Josh Jung added two hits and an RBI, Brandon Nimmo had two hits and drove in one, and Danny Jansen also knocked in a run.
Rodriguez struck out seven, but eight hits, one walk and two Arizona errors helped Texas put up six runs against him, though only three were earned. Taylor Clarke later allowed the Rangers’ final run.
Arizona kept coming. Nolan Arenado went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, Gabriel Moreno added a solo shot, and Geraldo Perdomo collected three hits. But after Robert Garcia worked a scoreless eighth, Jacob Latz survived a two-run ninth to finish his 29th save.
