Arizona Diamondbacks at St. Louis Cardinals has more visible recent form to work with, and Brandon Pfaadt’s early trend is encouraging. His 2.92 ERA and 1.10 WHIP fit the eye test of a pitcher who keeps games manageable, which helps explain why the Cardinals are slight favorites at home despite Pfaadt’s improving recent arc.

San Diego Padres at Atlanta Braves is notable because Griffin Canning’s 6.67 ERA opposite Chris Sale’s 2.06 sets up the clearest starting-pitching mismatch on the board. Minnesota Twins at Cleveland Guardians matters because Taj Bradley’s 3.85 ERA against Gavin Williams’ 4.00 gives this division rivalry a more balanced, swing-game feel than the numbers might initially suggest. Tampa Bay Rays at Toronto Blue Jays stands out because Ian Seymour’s 4.79 against Shane Bieber’s 5.70 gives this division rivalry a chance to turn on which starter can outperform a shaky season line.

The pitching spotlight belongs to Troy Melton, whose 1.80 ERA is the best mark among today’s featured and notable starters, and his combination of run prevention, WHIP, and strike-throwing makes him the most convincing arm on the slate.

It’s a short schedule, but the mound matchups should give Thursday night plenty of shape.
